Four $1000 education awards are available. For the first award, preference will be given to a student in trade, technical, or vocational programs. For the second award, preference will be given to a student in an academic program. For the third award, preference will be given to a student in either a trade or academic programs, and for the fourth award, preference will be given to a student pursuing graduate studies (for example, MBA, M.Ed, PhD).

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

The applicant must:

  1. Have a parent, guardian, or spouse/partner who is a member in good standing of CUPE Local 4879; or the applicant her/himself must be a member in good standing of CUPE Local 4879.
  2. Submit proof of paid registration:
  • In a full-time course load (for academic and vocational students, this means enrolment in at least 3 courses; and for trades and technical students, this means enrolment in at least an 8 week full-time training course). ***Students enrolled in a part-time course load will be considered if the number of applicants are not met for full time student applications. Please note that students enrolled in a full-time course load will be given preference.
  • In a first year or subsequent years at a recognized post-secondary institution in a trade, technical, vocational, or academic program in Canada.
  • For the academic year in which they are applying for the scholarship.

Deadline to submit your application is January 17, 2025.

Instead of a December general meeting we will be hosting a holiday social.

CUPE Holiday Party

  • When: Thursday December 12, 2024 at 4:30 PM to 7pm
  • Where: TRUSU Lecture Hall
  • There will be food and drinks. Possible karaoke and games
  • Last chance to enter the Grand Prize draw for $500 Visa Card (members from Kamloops and Williams Lake, who have attended the CUPE BBQ and previous meetings since September 2024 will also be eligible).

Storm Hockey Teddy Bear Toss Night

  • When: December 7, 2024 at MacArthur Island Sports Centre
  • Sponsored by KDLC and affiliates
  • There will be some free tickets for CUPE 4879 members. If you are interested, contact the CUPE office and we will get add your name to the list.
  • Bring a non-perishable food item to the event for a chance to enter for a $200 GC and other prizes at the event.

The Kamloops and District Labour Council invites you to our Annual KDLC Labour Day Picnic!

Join us for a day of celebration and community!

Featuring musical entertainment by the Dave Coalmine Band, an IBEW 993 Charity BBQ, and various KDLC affiliate and community displays. There will be plenty of family fun activities  by FunZone, a chance to meet the Kamloops Storm Hockey players, face painting by Denise, Sancho the Clown, opportunities to win prizes, and lots of free giveaways.  CUPE 4879 will have a display there.  If you would like to help out let us know.

Everyone is welcome!  The most important part of the event is the people. Please share this poster and information far and wide.

CUPE Scholarship Award Winners

With a record number of applications for the CUPE 4879 Scholarship Awards this year, the Education Committee selected these three commendable applicants. Academic student Karie Russell (CUPE member), academic student Daniella Falsetta (child of CUPE member Ornella Falsetta) and Trade student Paxon Haggard (child of CUPE member Jody Peddle).
